[YDD] Using Deliberate Practise To Learn A New Race Track

Published about 1 year ago • 1 min read

Hello Reader,

How quickly you learn a race track is a crucial part of being a successful track driver. What can you do to shortcut (and improve!) your discovery learning?

Time is the Enemy... Always it Seems!

Whether you’re an amateur racer or a professional, knowing a track well can help you to be faster, more confident, and more competitive. However, learning a race track takes time – time you may not have for expensive testing days or extended simulator sessions.

Deliberate Practice Can Speed Your Learning

By using deliberate practice and a combination of mental and physical exercises, you’ll soon be able to drive out of pits and be straight on the pace. You'll know each sequence of corners, all the key reference markers, where to push, and where not too...

...and that is the key message here: When time is short, you only want to practise the good stuff (acing fast laps) and not the bad stuff (crashes, spins, missed apexes... you get the idea!)

Sound too good to be true? Read on my friend…

p.s. Tyre Course Enrolment Update

If you've recently written asking when the tyre course will be available, good news because I've now decided to run the program again. Currently, I'm busy taking in all the feedback from the epic course pioneers and working to tweak, improve, and add things for enrolment 2. I'll be sharing more news soon, but if you are venturing out on track and looking to get just a little bit (or a lot a bit!) more grip from your tyres, then stay tuned for updates...

"The grip level was excellent, even on these older tires. I qualified on the pole and won both races. It was a mixed class group, where 2 of the classes are typically quite a bit faster. I ended with a 25 sec gap to second in this shortened 10 lap race, the tires stayed consistent from start to finish.

Thank You for creating this class, it’s been very timely for me!!

Best Regards,

Jeff Giordano - T4 Mazda MX5 "
