[YDD] 7 Easy Exercises To Improve Driver Fitness

Published over 2 years ago • 1 min read

Hello Reader,

You know that driver fitness is important. Not everyone wants to be an exercise addict though. Plus, balancing getting fit for motorsports with the rest of your life can be a real challenge.

Even when you can carve out a window to do fitness training, it can be unclear what workout you should do. There are endless training plans for sports like running or cycling. Few for racecar driving.

As a driver looking to improve your fitness, what exercises would have the most impact to your driving performance?

I have started doing some strength exercises and thought you might want to check them out too. In this weeks article I share this simple 7 step home workout programme (with a bonus 8th if you're keen!)

The nice thing is that this workout can be achieved from the comfort of your own home and with minimal kit. The routine can also be completed in as little as 20 minutes which is one reason it might work for you too.

Interestingly, what has really surprised me is the extra feel I have in the steering. If you give it a go too then let me know what you think. It should help your steering precision and smoothness.

Best wishes,

Samir

P.s. An article that compliments this one nicely is on driver heart rate. You might be surprised how high it goes, and more interestingly (I thought) was how it doesn't really recover when you get out of the car. Take a look and see for yourself.

This week: New Pod Willem Toet | Fun from around the web Hello Reader, For episode 50 (yes!), I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Willem Toet on the podcast. Willem is the former Head of Aerodynamics for the Benetton, Ferrari, BAR, and Sauber F1 teams. In addition to a host of aerodynamic insights and practical suggestions, Willem also shares a bit about his background growing up in Australia. It's fair to say he didn't have the easiest start, but little did he know that when he broke...

Hello Reader, We are not born with an ingrained ability to learn a race track. But knowing the race circuit (really) well is essential to you being fast. Yet learning takes time. Time you may not have for extra testing days or extended simulator sessions. You can just hope for the best. Try to figure things out as you go along. Or, you can try some preparation beforehand – like reading written guides, studying track maps and watching online videos. This weeks article is about levelling up...
