[YDD] How to use an objective approach to drive faster

Published about 2 years ago • 1 min read

Hello Reader,

How can an objective approach really help you drive faster on track? After all, you want the fastest car on track... not the fastest car on a laptop.

Are there things you can do to improve your approach to testing? How can you use data and were that can fit in?

This week I'm delighted to welcome Ray Phillips to the podcast.

https://www.yourdatadriven.com/ep35-ray-phillips-on-how-to-use-an-objective-approach-to-drive-faster/

A successful single seater driver and top line driver coach, Ray Phillips has a wealth of experience in motorsports. As a competitor and coach Ray was one of the early adopters with data. This has led to a lot of success for his drivers in series such as the Ferrari challenge. So committed is he to the role data plays, Ray has also recently taken over Peter Krause's Data & Video equipment sales business.

This is a great conversation with a Ray Phillips who shares many hard won secrets, including how to get a data system working well for you. I'm sure you'll find it fascinating.

Here are some show highlights:

Ahead of the Curve This week: A new workshop [link] | Coachineering at your service Your AiM data can tell you how to drive faster. If only you knew– or could remember– how Reader! I was coachineering a leading racing driver recently. A very successful businessman, and one who takes no prisoners. He knew his AiM data could probably help him – he’d just never done it, nor even seen it done well. He’d been sold on the dream of data but all he’d experienced was a frustrating nightmare. After...

This week: New Pod Willem Toet | Fun from around the web Hello Reader, For episode 50 (yes!), I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Willem Toet on the podcast. Willem is the former Head of Aerodynamics for the Benetton, Ferrari, BAR, and Sauber F1 teams. In addition to a host of aerodynamic insights and practical suggestions, Willem also shares a bit about his background growing up in Australia. It's fair to say he didn't have the easiest start, but little did he know that when he broke...

Hello Reader, We are not born with an ingrained ability to learn a race track. But knowing the race circuit (really) well is essential to you being fast. Yet learning takes time. Time you may not have for extra testing days or extended simulator sessions. You can just hope for the best. Try to figure things out as you go along. Or, you can try some preparation beforehand – like reading written guides, studying track maps and watching online videos. This weeks article is about levelling up...
