[YDD] Getting Started With Driver Feedback

Published about 2 years ago • 1 min read

Hello Reader,

Driver feedback might seem like “admin” but it is a great skill to develop. The performance potential of your car is completely linked to how confident you feel behind the wheel.

The better you can record your feelings of what the car is doing, the simpler it will be to make your track car faster. Plus, simply the act of you doing driver feedback, will help you improve as a driver.

Whilst breaking each corner down into entry, mid and exits phases can help you level-up your driver feedback, it is getting started with note taking that can be the hardest part.

This weeks article gives you an easy process to follow – including suggested questions to ask yourself and real examples notes to reference – in order to help you begin to do driver feedback.

The message when you are getting started with driver feedback is to keep it simple.

With these prompts and examples I hope you are able start doing driver feedback with a little more direction and confidence.

Let me know how it goes!

p.s. Last week I had Ray Phillips on the podcast. Listen to his show here if you missed it. Next week, I welcome Dale Thompson to the show to talk all things suspension tuning. Look out for that one or subscribe to the show so you don't miss its release.

p.p.s. I'll soon be launching some new courses on data and suspension tuning. Hit reply, and let me know if you have any particular questions you want me to cover.

I was coachineering a leading racing driver recently. A very successful businessman, and one who takes no prisoners. This week: New Pod Willem Toet | Fun from around the web Hello Reader, For episode 50 (yes!), I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Willem Toet on the podcast. Willem is the former Head of Aerodynamics for the Benetton, Ferrari, BAR, and Sauber F1 teams. In addition to a host of aerodynamic insights and practical suggestions, Willem also shares a bit about his background growing up in Australia. Hello Reader, We are not born with an ingrained ability to learn a race track. But knowing the race circuit (really) well is essential to you being fast. Yet learning takes time. Time you may not have for extra testing days or extended simulator sessions. You can just hope for the best. Try to figure things out as you go along. Or, you can try some preparation beforehand – like reading written guides, studying track maps and watching online videos. This weeks article is about levelling up...
